A swollen battery should be treated differently
If the trackpad has lifted, the keyboard deck looks uneven or the base cover is bulging, stop charging the laptop and avoid pressing the case back into position. These signs can indicate a swollen lithium battery.
Do not puncture the battery or keep using the laptop on mains power with the swollen pack inside. Mention the swelling when you contact us so the laptop can be handled appropriately.
A battery that is simply giving less backup is inconvenient. A battery that is changing the shape of the laptop is a safety concern.
What battery trouble can look like
- Switches off when unplugged
- The pack may no longer hold charge, but its connection and battery detection also need checking.
- Percentage stays fixed
- The adapter may be powering the laptop while the battery or charging circuit is not accepting charge.
- Backup fell gradually
- Normal cell ageing is more likely than a sudden electrical fault.
- Battery is not detected
- Battery failure, connector issues, firmware or the charging circuit are all possible causes.
How a laptop battery is checked before replacement
Battery health software is useful evidence, not a complete diagnosis. A charging-port or board-level power fault can imitate a failed battery, which is why ordering a part from the symptom alone can waste money.
- Confirm the exact laptop model and, where accessible, the battery part number.
- Check whether the adapter is recognised and supplying the correct type of power.
- Review battery health information and compare reported capacity with charging behaviour.
- Inspect for swelling, connector damage or signs that the fault sits outside the battery.
- Recommend replacement only when the findings support it.
Compatibility and cost factors
Battery price depends on the exact model, battery design and capacity, connector and mounting layout, part availability and the work required to open the laptop safely. Two laptops sold under the same series name can use different packs.
Share the model number from the base label rather than only saying Dell, HP or Lenovo. Where possible, the installed battery code is cross-checked before a compatible laptop battery is selected. No price should be assumed until that identification is complete.
What to expect after fitting a battery
The laptop should be checked on adapter power and battery power, and charging detection should behave normally. A new battery may need a few ordinary charge-and-use cycles before its runtime estimate settles; repeatedly draining it to zero is not necessary.
